Over his 50 year carree, Wayne appeared in more than 175 movies, beginning as an extra in 1926 and staring in his final film "The Shootist" in 1976.
In 1964, Wayne faced cancer; after beating it into remission he announced, "I licked the Big C. Because of early checkup, good doctors, and the Man Upstairs, I'm gonna make it!'. In 1978 the cancer returned and John Wayne passed in 1979 at the age of 72.
